Boeing handed over 27 airplanes to its customers last month as it continues to struggle with quality-control problems and production delays that have frustrated the CEOs of some of its biggest airline customers. So far this year, Boeing has handed over 54 planes, while Airbus has widened its lead over its main rival, delivering 79 planes in the first two months of 2024. Delayed Boeing planes have been difficult for airline leaders. Southwest Airlines , which flies only Boeing 737s, on Tuesday said it would trim capacity plans this year because of fewer Boeing Max deliveries and that it will have to reevaluate its 2024 financial estimates. American Airlines said Monday that 80% of its revenue this year will come from loyalty program members and passengers in premium cabins like business class, up from 70% in 2017. American and other carriers have poured billions of dollars into new cabins, lounges and onboard upgrades to cater to high-spending travelers. American's rival Delta Air Lines has repeatedly said that premium revenue growth has become a bigger share of its overall sales and is growing faster than ticket sales in the coach cabin. CNN —An off-duty pilot who was riding in the cockpit of an Alaska Airlines flight en route to San Francisco on Sunday is facing dozens of attempted murder charges after he tried to shut down the plane’s engines mid-flight, authorities say. “The fire suppression system consists of a T-handle for each engine; when pulled, a valve in the wing closes to shut off fuel to the engine,” Alaska Airlines said in a statement to CNN. The flight crew detained the suspect and the plane was diverted to Portland International Airport, the Port of Portland said in a statement. After Alaska Airlines acquired Virgin America in 2016, Emerson became a first officer with Alaska and worked about three more years to become a pilot for the airline, according to the airline statement. “Throughout his career, Emerson completed his mandated FAA medical certifications in accordance with regulatory requirements, and at no point were his certifications denied, suspended or revoked,” Alaska Airlines said in a statement.

American's previous deal for seven E175s, announced in June, underscored a U.S. regional aviation market recovering from rough years marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. "We maintain our optimistic view on Embraer, and believe that 2024-25 could translate into a period of a solid pipeline of deliveries." The order will take Envoy Air's fleet of E-Jets to more than 150 aircraft by the end of next year, Embraer said. The United States is the main market for the first-generation E-Jets, which Embraer dubs "the backbone" of that country's regional network. Last month, Embraer also announced a firm order for five E175s from Nigeria's Air Peace.
